Subaru OEM oil and Mobil 1 5W-30 GF5 are both reduced SAPS oils by definition so they are aligned with the X-clean EFE in terms of the metallic additive package. Remember that oil chemistry and the associated rheology is complex and you can't point to one single variable or data point in anyway. While I trust Bren's suggestion about the type of oil, I would take replies of anecdotes in this thread with a grain of salt when the claim of "I'm running this stuff and its great" runs about. Driving hard when its hot out will cause knock, driving hard with bad gas will cause knock, both of which were contributing to my DAM drop. I would find it hard to believe that someone could associate their oil to knock and dam drops when there are more variables to consider.īren also points out that every modern engine is going to experience knock in some capacity and the knock sensors (bren doesn't desensitize them) will pick up on everything. I've been running exclusively Mobil and Sunoco 93 Octane and since stopped going to other gas stations because they were convenient and slightly cheaper. Everything related to knock, dam drops, etc has always been related to bad gas. I occasionally run into DAM drops due to me pushing it with bad gas. I haven't had my intake valves looked at either, although I have already done the EGR delete. I can't say "omg I'm on this oil and its great" because I have no litmus test for a comparison or conclusion. Original OEM oil from when I bought it, went to mobil 1 5w30, did another OEM in the winter, went to 8100 EFE at Bren and now I just did another 8100 efe at about 12400. I've only done 4 oil changes so far and I'm at about 13000 miles now which means ~3000 mile changes. They recommended 8100 EFE so ever since I had it dyno-tuned I'm using that. I'm gonna take the side of Bren on this one as I really don't have any experience or knowledge of oils outside of simple rheology. I run my wrx super hard, yet I also change my oil after a weekend event in which I've abused the hell out of it. My car ran quietest on PUP 5w30 and ran hottest on 10w40 Motul 300. 450+ whp 465wtq Fa20dit from 5w30 - 10w40 (Amsoil Dominator, Motul 300, Redline, PUP, etc.) I think key is regular maintenance and care. I've swapped 4 different oil types and all is good. hell it has oil in it and enough of it is the first step. Peeps make quite a squeal over this or that brand. that oil is plenty fine for normal OCI with normal daily driving. You will be fine, and at that mileage you should still be in break in phase which means not WOT the track. Should I return this oil and get something else? Any advice is much appreciated. So far what I have gathered maybe Pennzoil pure platinum or Rotella t6 are better choices for the fa20dit? Hard to believe Subaru is offering anything that could be detrimental. I just seen this thread right after I walked out the dealership and purchased Motul 8100 xcess 5w40.now I’m not sure if I should run it? Car is a 19’ approaching 900 miles so I still have a little time to decide which oil to run for life of car.
